Upgrades have been top of mind for the 36-member IT staff at Saint Francis Medical Center, a 280-bed hospital in Cape Giradeau, Mo.
Anchored by its flagship, community-owned Calvert Memorial Hospital, the health system is trying to be a pioneer in Maryland, claiming among the lowest mortality and complication rates in the state -- thanks in part to its advancing digital information backbone, said CIO Ed Grogan.
IT workers at Trinitas Regional Medical Center know that anyone coming to the hospital is not happy to be there, and CIO Judy Comitto understands that makes the job harder -- and perhaps more rewarding.

"The neat thing about our IT department at Blessing is that we truly work with a sense of teamwork. We all work together to do what is right for our customers -- whether it is the patients or the clinicians," says Jessica Dalheim, information systems supervisor.

Every single IT professional at Children's Hospital & Medical Center makes rounds in a clinical or operational area. That's right, rounds, much like the type clinicians typically conduct.
The Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System serves the greater Coles County population with a 128-bed regional hospital and numerous clinics and outpatient facilities -- a wide service base that has compelled the 30-person IT staff to make sure they visit clinicians outside the hospital to best meet their needs.
"These folks really embrace technology, and they see the value in it and how it can help improve patient outcomes, and the bottom line, as well," said Mark Kilborn, CIO at Springhill Medical Center. As he sees it, Springhill IT staffers are always ready to exceed expectations.
