Healthcare IT News asks HIT professionals to take part in an important new survey that will study the place of EHRs, cybersecurity, population health, Big Data and more in the year ahead.  

The research firm found that no vendor community excels at exchanging records with other vendors and while providers see value in participating in CommonWell and Carequality only a small subset are actively sharing data today.

Integrating insurer data enables providers to incorporate claims, risk and other information into their analytics efforts, the company said.

Many of the 800 accountable care organizations are lagging in critical IT infrastructure, though commercial ACOs are earning more success today than their non-commercial counterparts.

The company claims to be the first scanner manufacturer to offer third-party certification that its products are interoperable.

The venture capital firm has already invested in Redox, founded by former Epic employees, as well as upstarts focusing on analytics, billing, and cloud-based machine learning.

Startup founders said they will use the funding to build out a nervous system for healthcare that connects providers, patients, pharmacies, labs and specialists. 

Consultancy Deloitte explained that the architecture has widespread implications for connecting fragmented systems to better assess the value of care and safeguard protected health information. 

Seven organizations will split the funds in multiple efforts to use health IT for projects ranging from a patient-centered data model to interoperable, bi-directional behavioral health data exchange.
