Southwest General Hospital Center, a 356-bed medical facility based in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, has deployed a new electronic medical record for its physicians.
"Our practices have multiple locations, and the current method of moving paper charts from one office to another is not efficient," said Jeff Bushong, executive director of Southwest General Medical Group, SGHC's employed medical group. "The ability to interface the ambulatory care record with our Cerner hospital information system will also help physicians access lab results and hospital reports more quickly and improve the coordination of care across our enterprise."
The Allscripts Professional Electronic Health Record will be integrated with the organization's MicroMD practice management system. The solution is designed to connect to labs and imaging centers that interact with SGHC and help accommodate the needs of the practice's physicians across its multiple sites.
Using secure internet connections with Chicago-based Allscripts, Southwest General Hospital Center will use the new electronic health record in a Software-as-a-Service model. By doing so, SGHC officials are hoping to control upfront costs while providing important patient information to working physicians.
"Allscripts technology will improve our physicians' workflow and ensure that they get the right information at the right time to make informed decisions for our patients," sadi Terri Rini Barber, vice president and chief information officer at SGHC.
SGHC is an acute care health facility with its own physician group, outpatient clinics and home care serivces with multiple on site locations.
