Amid ongoing leadership changes and a history of financial difficulties, Veradigm has appointed a new chief executive officer, Don Trigg. A healthcare technology veteran, Trigg is expected to leverage his prior experience to improve clinical quality and drive innovation and growth at the company.

WHY IT MATTERS

Trigg most recently was CEO of Apree Health, a tech company serving independent primary care practices. Under his leadership, Apree's model improved patient satisfaction, achieved top-tier performance on key health metrics and significantly reduced healthcare costs for clients, according to Veradigm's announcement on Monday.

Previously, Trigg rose to president at EHR giant Cerner and oversaw all of the business groups, including electronic health records, revenue cycle technology and data platform. Earlier in his career he held senior development roles focused on modernizing technical platforms.

Veradigm Board Chairman Lou Silverman called Trigg the ideal leader to take the helm and strategically drive growth and innovation. His appointment comes shortly after Veradigm’s interim CEO, Tom Langan, stepped down from the post after serving more than one year in the role.

THE LARGER TREND

Veradigm, formerly Allscripts, has undergone more than five years of corporate leadership changes and sold its hospital and large physician practice business segment in 2022.

The following year, the company found revenue misstatements dating back to fiscal year 2020 and appointed new leaders, including bringing Langan back to guide the company through the shakeup.

Last year, the company continued to promote analytics and other partnerships as rumors spread it was considering a sale. But in February, the company announced it had ended a strategic review that involved more than 30 parties and decided to stay the course.

ON THE RECORD

"Every Veradigm client is looking to improve clinical, operational and financial performance," Trigg said in a statement. "Veradigm’s solutions strengthen clinical quality, reduce administrative burdens and lower healthcare costs. It is a strong foundation for the next phase of growth."
