Enterprise applications stalwart SAP and connected health specialist Validic announced a partnership to enable healthcare organizations to advance precision and personalized medicine by analyzing patient-generated health data.

The companies said the agreement will enable users of SAP’s Connected Health platform, launched this spring, to more effectively access patient-generated health data from a variety of consumer apps and devices, wearables, and clinical devices where appropriate.

Pulling patient-generated health data into SAP’s platform will enable healthcare organizations to integrate it with other information sources, including electronic health records, genomics and biological data, Internet of Things devices and to run SAP analytics against it to better tailor personalized treatment regiments, the companies said.

“The massive amount of patient data now available to healthcare stakeholders offers new opportunities to deliver personalized medicine and value-based care,” the companies' executives said in a statement. “Powering the shift toward personalized medicine is the integration of patient-generated health data captured outside of the clinical setting into care treatment plans, clinical research studies, remote monitoring programs and preventative wellness initiatives.”

Validic CEO Drew Schiller said the partnership will enable the two companies to build new solutions in the future that empower patients and caregivers by making patient-generated health data more actionable within the connected health framework.
