Pediatric Associates boosts interoperability with EHR

By Molly Merrill , Associate Editor

Pediatric Associates of Washington State is implementing an electronic health record for its 70 physicians.

Officials say an EHR will streamline the practice's clinical, financial and administrative workflows while creating an interoperable system where patient information can be shared seamlessly in the organization.

Pediatric Associate's seven facilities in Bellevue, Factoria, Pine Lake, Redmond, Sammamish, Totem Lake and Redmond Ridge, as well as an administrative office in the greater Puget Sound region, will use an EHR from Carrollton, Ga.-based Greenway Medical Technologies.

PrimeSuite 2008 is an ambulatory EHR that includes certification in child health. Pediatric Associates offers a variety of general pediatric services to some 250,000 infants, children and adolescents.

"We are excited to begin working with Pediatric Associates and to provide the nation's largest general pediatric practice with one of the nation's leading fully integrated and interoperable EHR solutions," said Justin Barnes, vice president of marketing and government affairs at Greenway Medical Technologies. "Every time a large practice such as Pediatric Associates begins utilizing health information technology, we make a giant leap closer to achieving a nationwide interoperable healthcare system that enhances the quality of care that physicians can provide their patients, as well as provide a better quality of life for physicians that use leading integrated solutions such as Greenway's PrimeSuite."

To create interoperability between the facilities and the diagnostic centers, Pediatric Associates will use Greenway's PrimeExchange.

The practice will also use PrimePatient, allowing patients to pay bills, schedule appointments, interact with staff members, view lab results and request prescriptions through a Web portal.

"Our experience with Greenway has proven very rewarding," said Brett Vandenberg, CIO of Pediatric Associates. "They are on the cutting edge of healthcare technology, and we are pleased to have a solution that will increase the quality of care our physicians can provide to our patients while maximizing the organizational workflow and processes throughout our facilities."
