PatientSafe Solutions will debut a new version of its clinical communication and collaboration platform during HIMSS17 in late February.

CEO Si Luo said that the upgrade will bring features for large-scale health systems.

New capabilities include back-end management functions, integration with unified communication infrastructure offerings by Cisco and Avaya. Luo said that integration lowers the cost and complexity of creating new management console, dial plan, and technical configuration every time a health system adds another communication vendor.

With the latest evolution of its products, PatientSafe is aiming to create what a single application encompassing various pieces of its communications, coordination and clinical workflow tools to create a foundation for population health management, Luo said.

To that end, the company is also adding assignment features for pairing appropriate clinicians with patients.

“Population health starts by making care teams communicate and collaborate with each other more effectively, then focusing on concrete transitions of care cases, and introducing those with a clear workflow impact,” Luo explained.

PatientSafe will also reveal work very early in development to leverage its existing mobile tool for discharge planning and case worker productivity.

That tool is so early in its lifecycle, in fact, that PatientSafe did not have a formal name for it when this article went to publication, though Luo said they would by the time HIMSS17 starts.

Luo said that the new features, early mobile, tools and single app approach advance its efforts to move outside the four walls of a hospital and into ambulatory, oncology and therapy settings moving forward.

“Healthcare executives are getting a lot more savvy about what an enterprise care team communications platform should look like,” he said.

HIMSS17 runs from Feb. 19 to 23, 2017, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.
