New law opens HHS data trove

More data could give analytics a boost

HHS could soon release a big trove of data, twice as much as it has in the past, according to a report from Medical Practice Insider, Healthcare IT News' sister publication.

Medical Practice Insider Editor Frank Irving reports that the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, or MACRA, the legislation that repealed the outmoded Sustainable Growth Rate formula, contains a section intended to put more claims data in the hands of analytical experts. The provision allows the HHS Secretary to release not just Medicare data, but also Medicaid and CHIP data. That would double the amount of claims data in the system, enabling more sophisticated analytics.
