Clinical documentation and speech technology company M*Modal launched its latest technology – a cloud-based risk-adjustment suite.

The offering is all about documentation: capturing the right documentation at the right time in the right way – the better to get paid for services rendered, the company said.

The technology is designed to help healthcare organizations boost their risk-adjustment documentation and to accurately capture the hierarchical condition categories, or HCCs.

By accurately capturing the disease burden and risk-adjustment factor scores, and being more focused on quality, hospitals and health systems can drive documentation specificity, and in turn reduce or eliminate revenue leakage.

The M*Modal suite uses proprietary Natural Language Understanding technology to bring clinical intelligence, automation and workflow efficiencies that can scale to the larger volume of outpatient documentation, officials said.

The intent is to help healthcare organizations adopt a strategic approach to HCC charge capture by optimizing chart documentation, which the company said is key to risk-adjustment payment integrity and a complete understanding of the patient to drive better patient outcomes.

“Maintaining quality documentation for the HCC framework is complex and requires a multi-pronged strategy that continually evaluates, monitors, and improves documentation quality,” M*Model CEO Scott MacKenzie said.

The new HCC technology includes: Real-Time, Front-End Physician HCC Support; Back-End HCC Audit and Workflow Management; and HCC Assessment and Planning.
