The Mexican Social Security Health Institute upgrades its network

The Mexican Social Security Health Institute has revamped its network to connect 2,000 rural clinics and offices.

IMSS, a governmental organization that attends to public health, pensions and social security in Mexico, used Marlborough, Mass.-based 3Com's Switch 4500 and 5500G as the LAN switches for its new network.

The network now supports more than 5,000 employees who interact directly with beneficiaries of IMSS.

IMSS upgraded the information flow process at all rural clinics to provide a more robust platform, improved resource management and the speed required for medical and administrative personnel to access information – such as medical records, files, diagnosis materials and images – faster and more efficiently.

"Increasingly, government entities are turning to 3Com to build state-of-the-art networking solutions," said Ravey Castillo, general manager for 3Com in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. "With our newer, more flexible product portfolio, 3Com delivers the kind of high-quality solutions to support these large deployments at an overall cost that is more in line with the realities of today's economic environment. We are very proud to be working with IMSS as they provide a valuable service to beneficiaries in Mexico."

IMSS officials say the network supports its main goals – to enhance patient services through a next-generation communication infrastructure that enables optimum information management, increase employee productivity and dramatically reduce its total cost of ownership.
