Kansas City health insurer deploys IT to manage member wellness

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City is planning to implement a healthcare management platform to its 880,000 members this month.

BCBSKC will deploy Alineo 2.0, a platform from Wayne, Pa.-based MEDecision, to its members in greater Kansas City, northwest Missouri and eastern Kansas. Officials say the technology will provide better support for its wellness program, A Healthier You, which provides members with a portfolio of health and wellness tools and services that are designed to foster a healthy lifestyle.

"The healthcare industry is poised for great change, and Alineo is a solution that can easily adapt to meet our needs as we evolve with the market," said Brian Burns, senior vice president of healthcare services at BCBSKC. "We were very impressed with its vast capabilities, particularly its ability to provide a complete view of our members' health histories and to accommodate our long-term growth."

The platform will also help the health insurer identify high risk patients, offer best care plans based on embedded clinical content and evaluate individual member and population-wide health care programs, including approvals, referrals and extensions.

"Working with BCBSKC allows us to demonstrate our commitment to offering technology that meets the changing needs of the market," said David St.Clair, founder and CEO of MEDecision. "We are pleased that they have selected Alineo for their care management platform, and we look forward to the many things our organizations can accomplish together as we approach new opportunities on the horizon for healthcare."
