Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City has rolled out a healthcare management platform for its 880,000 members in greater Kansas City, northwest Missouri and eastern Kansas.

BCBSKC deployed Alineo 2.0, a platform developed by Wayne, Pa.-based MEDecision. Health plan executives say the technology will provide better support for the plan’s wellness program, A Healthier You, which provides members with a portfolio of health and wellness tools and services that are designed to foster a healthy lifestyle.

“The healthcare industry is poised for great change, and Alineo is a solution that can easily adapt to meet our needs as we evolve with the market,” said Brian Burns, senior vice president of healthcare services at BCBSKC.

“We were very impressed with its vast capabilities, particularly its ability to provide a complete view of our members’ health histories and to accommodate our long-term growth.”

The platform will also help the health insurer identify high risk patients, offer best care plans based on embedded clinical content and evaluate individual member and population-wide healthcare programs, including approvals, referrals and extensions.

“Working with BCBSKC allows us to demonstrate our commitment to offering technology that meets the changing needs of the market,” said David St.Clair, founder and CEO of MEDecision.

St. Clair said Alineo 2.0, released in June, provides health plans with a resource that can support business growth by streamlining operations, controlling medical and administrative costs and strengthening business processes while improving the overall quality of care.

“We’re very pleased to be able to continue our development initiatives and reinforce our commitments both to our customers and to the advancement of the industry even during weak economic times,” added Scott A. Storrer, president and COO at MEDecision.
