Healthcare IT News unveils new Web site

By Jack Beaudoin , Special Contributor

Healthcare IT News, the news source for healthcare information technology, has launched a brand new Web site for 2009 and beyond.

While the previous version delivered daily news, industry white papers and links to educational Web seminars in an easy-to find format, the new site moves beyond text and incorporates photos, podcasts and video with a single aim in mind -- to deliver the most useful industry information, in a variety of formats, to the healthcare IT community.

"We've spent much of the last year researching our readers' information needs, matching it to the best available technology and building a site that will be both easy to navigate and information-rich," said MedTech Publishing Company's president and CEO, Neil Rouda.

The new home page (www.healthcareitnews.com) suggests the depth and variety of content the site now offers. In addition to the award-winning news HealthcareITNews.com presents every day, visitors will find the latest entries from the new Healthcare IT Blog, written by industry experts, contributors such as John Farrell of MobileHealthWatch.com and Patty Enrado of NHINWatch.com, and the Healthcare IT News editorial team.

A more dramatic change may be found in the use of rich media. The home page will connect visitors to the latest industry-related podcasts and streaming video that the site now houses, creating a more dynamic user experience.

For instance, the editorial team is currently working with Davies Award winner Eastern Maine Medical Center to produce a series of videos documenting how IT is making a difference to patients, clinicians and others at a major hospital.

"The editors at Healthcare IT News have always prided themselves on giving readers up-to-the-minute news and multiple viewpoints on the issues of the day," said Bernie Monegain, editor of Healthcare IT News. "Our new Web site continues to do that and more, with new ways of accessing the news -- and talking back. Whether it’s a blog, comments on a story, a video on new clinical technology, or a podcast on fresh ideas or policies in healthcare IT, the new healthcareitnews.com is interactive, vibrant and dynamic."

Healthcare IT News' e-newsletters will also be redesigned to match the new site. The sleek design has been optimized for display in all the latest email clients and reduce message sizes, while making it easier for recipients to scan the latest headlines and news summaries. Newsletters will also include links to the site's new job board, site resources and most popular content.

Said Monegain, "HealthcareITNews.com is still the place to go for the latest news and now it makes room for more voices, more ideas, more exchange with a colleague or industry leader."
