The Health Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has named Honolulu-based Hawai‘i Pacific Health winner of the 2012 Enterprise HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence. Hawai'i Pacific Health is a Stage 6 hospital in electronic health record adoption; a nonprofit healthcare system; and Hawaii’s largest healthcare provider.
Hawai’i Pacific Health operates four hospitals, 49 outpatient clinics and service sites, with more than 1,300 affiliated physicians. The health system is known for its strategic initiatives in women’s health, pediatric care, cardiovascular services, cancer care and bone and joint services, according to HIMSS.

“Hawai‘i Pacific Health ranks among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide in the adoption of electronic health records, with system-wide implementation that allows its hospitals and physicians to offer integrated, coordinated care throughout the state,” said C. As noted in its Davies Award case studies, the health system has demonstrated an annual return on investment from an integrated electronic health record of 9 percent over 10 years. Success was achieved through the integration of all revenue cycle functions and by driving financial and clinical performance through transparency, collaboration and accountability.
Health IT was not limited to inpatient and outpatient settings. Patients can view their laboratory results, educational materials, appointment scheduling, and health maintenance reminders on a Web portal. More than 29,000 patients now regularly communicate through the portal, averaging 650 log-ons per day.
