Georgia Health Sciences University (GHSU) in Augusta, Ga. has hired Charles Enicks as chief information officer, a seasoned healthcare information technology executive with more than 35 years of senior leadership experience.

Enicks was selected after the university conducted a nationwide executive search by healthcare leadership solutions firm B. E. Smith. He will assume his new duties at GHSU on May 1.

With many years serving as a CIO at healthcare organizations, Enicks brings a proven ability to develop and execute successful multidimensional strategic and governance plans for IT across the entire enterprise, according to a news release issued by B.E. Smith. Enicks will be instrumental in leading the IT operations while providing collaborative, inspired leadership for the IT team.

Prior to joining GHSU, Enicks was CIO at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he led the IT function for five related schools, five hospitals and a 550-physician multispecialty practice. He also has served as CIO at numerous other academically affiliated healthcare organizations, including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System and Emory Healthcare in Atlanta.

“Following the merger of the university with its health system, GHSU was looking for a CIO with experience in an academic and university healthcare system,” said Kathy Hall, vice president of senior executive search for B. E. Smith. “Charlie has a proven track record of leading IT for integrated delivery systems and academic medical centers.”
