CPSI, which develops electronic health records for rural, community and critical access hospitals and post-acute care facilities, has partnered with Caravan Health to launch CPSI Rural Accountable Care Organizations.

The aim is to help rural providers form ACOs and manage value-based payments – whether they use CPSI EHRs or not.

"We are excited to bring this new ACO offering to all rural community hospitals and their affiliated and employed physicians, regardless of which EHR they use," said Boyd Douglas, CEO of CPSI, in a press statement.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data shows that Caravan Health helped achieve shared savings 257 percent greater than the national average, with an aggregate quality score of 96.8 percent, according to the companies.

"Caravan Health has a proven track record in the rural ACO space with 23 successful Medicare Shared Savings Programs in 32 states," said Douglas. "This partnership allows us to address the specific needs rural providers face as they begin their transition to value-based care."

More than 4,600 acute, post-acute and ambulatory facilities use CPSI technology.

Douglas added that the partnership will help rural ACOs reduce upfront costs and maximize revenue under value-based care and enable up to 20 new ACOs spanning 200 rural health systems to transform care delivery.

Caravan Health CEO Lynn Barr said that CPSI understands the pride rural communities take in their hospital.

"They also know the unique challenges that providers must overcome on their path to providing value-based care,” Barr said.
