Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta promotes healthy lifestyles with new Web site

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, a not-for-profit organization providing care in more than 30 pediatric specialties, has launched a new Web site focused on a family approach to healthy lifestyles.

“While most wellness sites separately focus on either adults or children, MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a resource for the whole family,” said Lucy Klausner, executive director of child health promotion at Children’s. “Research has shown that family participation is noted to be one of the most effective ways to incorporate a healthy lifestyle for children and young adults.”

The site offers free resources for families that are split into three categories: parents, teens and children. Each section provides solutions on how to adopt a healthier lifestyle by providing suggested fitness options and activities for rainy days or road trips.

MyFamilyHealthSpot.org also provides tools to track family health, like “My Cardio Log” and “First Aid and Safety,” which offer activity tracking and tips on proper first aid techniques.

To access tools offered on the Web site, families are required to create a personal profile to manage and maintain health goals. A newsletter is available once families have selected their goals that contains personalized wellness content.

“MyFamilyHealthSpot.org is a valuable resource not only because it’s free, easy to use and fun for families, but it allows children to take an active role in their own health,” said Klausner.
