Rainbow Children's Clinic has sent out notification letters to some of its patients notifying them that a hacker attacked its computer system on and encrypted data.
Despite the computer system being shut down to prevent the loss of patients' information, an investigation by a computer forensic expert retained by the clinic found that some patient records had indeed been deleted.
The records that may have been lost potentially include patients' names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and medical information. Personal info -- payment guarantors and their accompanying information -- may also have been compromised.
The clinic said is has taken steps to prevent a future incident, including the strengthening of its security measures.
It has also established a toll-free call center to answer questions about the incident. The call center is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Central Time, and can be reached at 1-844-607-1700.
Additionally, the clinic is offering monitoring and identity theft resolution services through Equifax at no cost.
