[Bradford, UK] Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is now live with the Cerner Millennium EPR after a staged-deployment process organised towards the end of September.
The system is expected to ‘fundamentally change’ the delivery of services while improving patient safety and the quality of clinical care, according to minutes from the trust’s September board meeting.
The system was first expected to go live in the emergency department, followed by pharmacy/ePrescribing, wards and outpatients.
The deployment is part of a joint digital transformation programme with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, which went live with the Millennium EPR in May this year.
The project has been described by Calderdale and Huddersfield’s Chief Operating Officer Helen Barker as ‘the largest and broadest deployment for Cerner across England so far’.
The joint procurement of the system, announced back in 2015, generated savings of £12m for both trusts.
The Bradford Teaching Hospitals trust intends to extend the functionality of the EPR during the next two years to develop a patient portal that could be accessed through an app.
In July, Cerner announced the company’s earnings for the second quarter of 2017 reached an all-time high, approximately £1.2bn, with the UK considered an ‘area of strength’ for bookings.
Seven Global Digital Exemplar trusts currently use IT systems provided by Cerner.
