The national project is aimed at developing financially sustainable solutions to improve the health of underserved individuals and save money.

"Medicaid is filled with success stories, but not the capital," Slavitt says.

Cynthia Sikina, vice president of Financial Services with consulting firm Afia, works with healthcare providers to optimize financial operations, not by having a technology background, but in being able to accurately translate a client’s needs to the IT department.

The change would ramp up add-on payments to hospitals that implement new tech and increase the wage index for rural and other qualifying hospitals.

CMS and other health insurers are using the program to deliver innovative and unique value to customers, both in terms of cost and quality.
