Overall, the industry has added 445,000 jobs in the past 12 months.

While hospitals added 10,700 jobs and ambulatory services hired 12,900 new employees, nursing homes shed thousands of workers during the month. 

More than a dozen medical groups including the American Medical Association, Medical Group Management Association, American College of Surgeons and others, have sent the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on August 22 imploring it to quickly make the proposed 90-day reporting period a final rule.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said that the grace period will end as planned and come Oct. it will end the flexibilities it granted hospitals and coders thus far.

Ambulatory facilities and services led the month’s hiring, while hospitals were a close second in creating new jobs. 

In another big surge for healthcare hiring, the industry added 44,000 jobs in April -- representing more than a quarter of the 160,000 jobs created that month, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.
