The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange and the National Association for Trusted Exchange have partnered to work on the next phase of the Virtual Clipboard Initiative.
The Virtual Clipboard Initiative is developing a blueprint for the patient intake process, including automating the collection of health insurance and demographic information.
Devin Jopp, president and CEO of WEDI, said that both organizations will work to broaden interoperability in healthcare technology across all industry stakeholders.
"We are confident that the synergies of our organizations will produce amazing returns as we look to enhance the use of additional interoperable technologies that include the consumer, bringing about a new era in healthcare," NATE CEO Aaron Sib added.
The initial phase of the Virtual Clipboard Initiative, announced in July, focused on facilitating the automated collection of critical patient health insurance and demographic information. A goal of the project is to "create consistent standards, integration points and security that will add value to the entire healthcare delivery system by increasing the quality of care, improving patient safety and reducing administrative costs," according to the announcement.
More than 40 representatives from major health plans, providers, health IT vendors and government entities are participating in the Virtual Clipboard Initiative including The Sullivan Institute for Healthcare Innovation, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and the Medical Group Management Association, among others.
