Senate passes stimulus package

By Diana Manos , Contributing writer

The Senate voted 61 to 37 Tuesday afternoon to approve an $838 billion stimulus package, according to The Washington Post.

Only three Republicans voted in favor of the package: Susan Collins and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.

The House passed its $819 billion version on Jan. 28 without any Republican support. The Senate and House will now work to resolve differences between the two versions, and President Barack Obama hopes to have a consolidated bill on his desk by Friday.

Both bills include more than $100 billion for healthcare reform and $20 billion for healthcare IT.
