Mobile health engagement technology vendor mPulse Mobile and health system customer relationship management systems company Docent Health have announced a partnership at HIMSS18. Docent Health said it recognized the value of interactive and targeted text messaging as an effective method to maintain a trusted channel of communication with patients at scale, and turned to mPulse to incorporate their mobile engagement technology to help drive engagement, retention and customer advocacy.
Docent Health now leverages multiple messaging capabilities from mPulse Mobile. By using a combination of real-time conversations, pre-scripted communications and responses, and rules-based messaging triggered by a wide range of use cases, Docent Health will be able to get consumers the right information at the right time and develop strategic campaigns that support patient engagement and growth strategies, the company said.
“At the core of Docent Health’s approach is connecting with patients early in their decision making process, building awareness and conversion with prospective patients, and continuing to build activation, loyalty and advocacy throughout the customer relationship,” said Paul Roscoe, Docent Health CEO. “With the mPulse Mobile engagement solution, our customer-centric approach is extended and enhanced with the use of micro-targeted, personalized and interactive text messaging.”
With 71 percent of Docent managed patients opting to have text messaging as their primary communication channel, Docent Health now can scale interactions to the tens of thousands of patients it serves, the company explained. The company added that it is driving a 46 percent click-through rate on links to key resources, which, the company contends, means digital communications are directly translating into patients feeling better supported.

Meanwhile, Fujitsu America introduced at HIMSS18 MedClick Platform, an FDA-cleared, enterprise-level platform for patient engagement, which expands the company’s offerings within the healthcare industry.
The cloud-based offering is designed to improve engagement between healthcare providers and patients. The platform features a number of benefits, the company said, to assist hospitals and other medical institutions to deliver care in a way that is intuitive and stress-free for patients and time-saving for the institutions themselves.
The MedClick Platform is designed to improve medication adherence and manage chronic conditions by enriching the relationship between the care team and the patient via its enterprise-level, mobile communication platform. The platform digitally connects healthcare providers with patients and provides support when the patients are outside of the medical facility.
The platform also streamlines workflows and is designed to improve care team communication and collaboration with the patient by offering personalized, two-way interactive, secure messaging and real-time remote medication monitoring.
In addition to connecting the care team to patients, the MedClick application is secured by the Biometrics-as-a-Service platform from Fujitsu, which provides multi-modal biometrics for patient identity verification without requiring passwords.
“The MedClick Platform, along with our integrated Secure DirectClick solution, provides a robust solution that delivers end-to-end monitoring throughout a patient’s health journey, leading to better healthcare outcomes,” said Jason Bradlee, head of security for Americas region, Fujitsu America, which is located at Booth 164 at HIMSS18.
Also at HIMSS18, Mayo Clinic Global Business Solutions and Wellpepper announced that Mayo Clinic will be providing best practices for interactive care plans on the Wellpepper platform. Wellpepper is a clinically validated patient engagement platform used by health systems to improve outcomes and lower costs of care, the company said.
Wellpepper clients who use any electronic health record will be able to use Mayo Clinic care plan protocols to help patients follow their physicians’ instructions outside the clinic to self-manage and improve their outcomes.
Mayo Clinic Care Plans will be available through Wellpepper Marketplace, which launches later in the second quarter of 2018. Mayo Clinic Care Plans initially will be available to cardiac rehabilitation, headache and sports medicine patients. The care plans eventually will encompass hundreds of patient interventions showcasing the breadth of Mayo Clinic expertise, Wellpepper explained.
“Wellpepper and Mayo Clinic share a continuous commitment to providing care that ultimately benefits patients,” said Steve Ommen, MD, interim medical director of Mayo Clinic Global Business Solutions.
Wellpepper’s interactive care plans are based on a framework of building blocks that support creating any type of patient instructions. Wellpepper patients are more than 70 percent engaged in their care plans, and control trials conducted by researchers at Boston University and Harvard University show clinically meaningful patient outcomes for patients using the Wellpepper platform, Wellpepper said.
