Nursing informatics symposium at HIMSS17 to tackle disruptive leadership and innovation

The incoming flood of technologies and tactics informatics specialists and care teams can harness are opening new opportunities for nursing professionals to take on leadership roles.

Emerging technologies are creating challenges for informatics nurses as their roles continually evolve—but the rapid pace of change is also paying the way to new leadership opportunities for those who keep pace or stay ahead of the game.

The Nursing Informatics Symposium: Harnessing Disruptive Innovation, taking place on Feb. 19, 2017 at HIMSS17, will outline strategies for success.

The symposium will address the benefits of disruptive leadership, demonstrate how to apply innovation and state-of-the-art interoperability, and glimpse the future of clinical decision-making and patient-generated data.

Opening keynote: Disruptive leadership
This session will shine a light on how nurses can leverage innovative thinking to solve current challenges, and to better prepare for what comes next. That includes growing into a disruptive leader.

Innovation spotlight
Attendees will learn about the innovative solutions and apps being used today to engage patients, track devices to measure efficacy and assess the risk of readmission.

Using data science to influence population health
This session will home in on tactics that nurses can apply when analyzing large data sets to influence outcomes in patient populations.

Fostering innovation in your organization 
This case study examines how an organization built a physical space for staff to develop new ideas that overcome existing challenges and foster a culture of innovation among it staff.

Using innovation to advance interoperability
This session will demonstrate progress that the Center for Medical Interoperability is making to compel change, improve patient safety, care quality and outcomes, while reducing clinician burden and waste.

Using the Internet of Healthy Things to improve health and care 
As the growing number of apps and medical devices are capturing and sharing data along with everyday objects, this session will concentrate on the ways that the emerging Internet of Healthy Things (IoHT) can be harnessed to bolster care delivery and improve users’ health.
