Reports are swirling that Microsoft is building a security platform-as-a-service.
Dubbed "Sonar," the plan was essentially leaked via a job listing on the Microsoft Careers Website.
"The Sonar team builds and operates a malware detonation platform-as-a-service," the posting explained.

Microsoft added that Sonar already is spinning up tens of thousands of VMs daily to detect malware and protect customers.
"We are taking the service to the next level to handle more customers and data at scale," the posting said.
Another related listing described the Sonar unit as "a small, fast growing team that is building a large scale, distributed security service. This service dynamically analyzes millions of potential exploit and malware samples in virtual machines and collects terabytes of data during that analysis every day."
What remains to be seen is whether "Microsoft will allow customers to run Sonar and then amass and analyze the data collected," according to a post on ZDNet, "or if Microsoft will run Sonar and allow users to analyze the data gathered."
