The increase in technology has empowered patients to become more involved in their healthcare. And while physicians strive to meet requirements and move into value-based care, there is still a question on how patients can safely - and successfully - become more connected to the healthcare experience to improve outcomes.

On Thursday, Dec. 15 at 2PM Central Time, HIMSS and Rasu Shrestha, MD, chief innovation officer of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, will host an #Aim2Innovate Twitter chat, with the goal of revealing what consumers are really looking for when it comes to healthcare.

Among establishing the current state of healthcare, HIMSS leaders will address these wishlist items:

  • Ways providers can take a more consumer-centric approach to care and the function of IT to expand access, care coordination and simplified information
  • What patients are looking for in their healthcare experience and where IT fits into the equation to generate more convenient and consistent care
  • Current healthcare initiatives and how they have both helped and challenged the industry
  • Ways to engage patients without frustrating them through the use of meaningful insights, recommendations and preferences for more personalized care

The hosts will also pose these questions:

  • How can health IT create care delivery that is consumer-focused?
  • What ways can IT tools reveal what patients are looking for in their own care?
  • In what function is health IT helping improve health experiences and reducing friction?
  • Do you feel the current healthcare system is treating you like a person? And what changes should be made?
  • What is the difference between what consumerization means for the industry and what it means for patients?

Join the chat #AIM2INNOVATE: What do healthcare consumers want (for the holidays)? on Dec. 15 at 2PM central with @HIMSS and @RasuShrestha.
