The Henry Ford Health System has rolled out a new picture archiving and communication system.
PathPACS, developed by Falls Church, Va.-based Apollo PACS, Inc., was designed to provide digital imaging management for pathology laboratories. The solution will be integrated with the Detroit-based health system’s Sunquest Anatomic Pathology Information System and Sunquest Clinical Laboratory Information System.
"The Apollo PathPACS product design is ideally suited to support our vision for expanding the use of digital imaging in the daily practice of surgical pathology and for the expedient delivery of pathology information to organizations outside the institution,” said J. Mark Tuthill, the health system's division head of pathology informatics. “Once fully implemented, PathPACS will streamline the pathology imaging management process, address patient safety requirements and optimize pathology case workflow throughout HFHS."
PathPACS includes an image management toolkit designed to aid users in applying the system to specific hospital needs.
HFHS officials say they will leverage the PACS solution to streamline workflows in the pathology department, increase patient safety and satisfaction and reduce the overall cost of procedures. In addition to benefits to the quality of care, they said, the system has been integrated with the pre-existing IT infrastructure, allowing for a reduced time to upload images online.
