Beloit Memorial Hospital has deployed a new X-ray system in its expanded emergency department to help deal with an increasing patient population.
The Beloit, Wis.-based hospital is using the Optima XR640, from GE Healthcare, which captures X-ray images on a computer. Without the use of film, physicians can deliver results to patients faster by producing digital images on a display screen.
“We currently see over 100 patients a day, and this new system and emergency department expansion are critical in allowing us to meet the increased capacity demands while maintaining patient comfort,” said Mardell Jacobsen, the hospital's director of medical imaging.
Beloit Memorial Hospital has 105 beds and serves more than 35,000 patients per year. The facility is a connected hospital for the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. As the medical facility expanded its emergency department, new IT was needed to meet the demand.
Hospital officials are looking to leverage system features like auto-positioning, which allows IT staff to preset exam positions, to help speed up test processes and improve productivity in the ER.
“With auto positioning, the technologist can simply push a button to choose a position for a specific exam,” said Jacobsen. “This allows our staff to focus on the patient – who is our number one priority.”
