Ramsay Health Care, one of the largest private healthcare providers in Australia, has appointed a top hospital tech leader in the United States to lead its digital transformation.

The company announced in a LinkedIn post that Dr John Doulis, VP of data services and innovation at HCA Healthcare, a major provider operating in the US and the United Kingdom, will assume the role of Group Executive - Technology and Digital in November.

"John will lead our digital and technology strategy, driving innovation that supports our clinical teams and enhances the care we provide to patients," Ramsay said in the announcement.

At HCA, Dr Doulis led the Digital Transformation and Innovation team. He brings more than two decades of senior leadership experience, including serving as assistant vice chancellor for Health Affairs and COO of the Informatics Center at Vanderbilt University in the US.

He has also overseen IT investment strategy as the previous chief information and informatics officer of MedCare Investment Funds.

THE LARGER CONTEXT

Dr Doulis will replace Dr Rachna Gandhi, who appeared to have vacated the position this month, September. She had been the group chief transformation, digital, data and AI officer for four years.

Dr Gandhi oversaw the development of Ramsay's AI clinical documentation tool, Ramsay Scribe, announced earlier this year. Developed with T-Pro, the tool was piloted at St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital in Queensland and later tested across Ramsay's inpatient and mental health outpatient settings.

Ramsay is undertaking a 10-year digital transformation that includes greater use of AI tools to streamline workflows and reduce administrative burdens on staff. As part of this programme, the group has also partnered with Google Cloud and QuantumIT to implement cloud-based solutions.
