2017 EMRAM trailblazers

New figures from HIMSS Analytics reveal that around 200 hospitals from Europe and Latin America were validated at Stage 6 and 7 of the EMRAM last year.

In 2017, approximately 200 organisations from Europe and Latin America achieved Stage 6 and 7 of the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). In Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz Medical City Riyadh reached Stage 6 of the Digital Imaging Adoption Model, marking a global first.

Starting from this month, the EMRAM standards are being updated to reflect advancements in digital technology. Don’t forget to read this blog from HIMSS Analytics Director of Research and Advisory Services Jörg Studzinski to find out how you can prepare for these changes.

Radboud University Medical Centre is re-validated at HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 7

Radboud University Medical Centre, the first organisation in the Netherlands to receive the EMRAM Stage 7 award, has now been successfully re-validated after demonstrating compliance against the standards of the international benchmark.

The centre has been working with Epic, their EMR provider, since 2012.

“We are extremely proud to be able to have been re-validated at this level.

“For our organisation, this is a confirmation that we are on the right track to make a significant impact on healthcare through a data-driven way of working by our care providers supported by Information Management, our vendors and the other leading healthcare organisations in this field,” said Dr Ronald Petru, the centre’s Chief Medical Information Officer.

St Jansdal Hospital achieves HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 7

The Netherlands saw a second centre become validated at Stage 7 of the EMRAM standards in 2017.

St Jansdal Hospital will receive the award at HIMSS Europe 18, which will take place in Sitges, Spain, between 27-29 May. The facility has been working with Epic since October 2016.

“We are very proud of being awarded this EMRAM Stage 7 accolade.

“This award is a mark of our path of strategy-realisation and an acknowledgement of the devotion and hard work of all our hospital staff,” said Relinde Weil, St Jansdal President of the Board of Directors.

Children’s Hospital Ljubljana achieves HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 6

Ljubljana Children’s Hospital and PICU, operating within the University Medical Centre Ljubljana in Slovenia, has been validated at Stage 6 of the EMRAM standards, becoming the first facility in the world using a clinical system based on an open platform to be recognised at this level.

Its EMR system, called Think!Clinical and Think!Meds, has been developed by Marand, a Slovenian provider of software solutions.

“Physicians and nurses can spend more time with patients because we switched from a time-consuming, paper-based process for prescribing, medication administration and Pharmacist review to electronic medication management,” said Professor Rajko Kenda, Former Medical Director at the hospital.

Torrejón University Hospital achieves HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 6

Torrejón University Hospital received the EMRAM Stage 6 award in April this year. The facility, fully paperless in terms of clinical information, uses an EMR developed internally, called Florence.

“We have worked very hard to achieve this certification. The award means a step forward in the quality of care for our patients.

“Standardisation of security protocols and technological tools to assist clinical decision-making are improving our work and the safety of our patients,” said Ignacio Martínez, the hospital’s Managing Director, and David Dapena Ortiz, its CIO.

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust achieves HIMSS Analytics EMRAM Stage 6

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, located in London, England, has been successfully validated at Stage 6 of the EMRAM standards after demonstrating its commitment to improve patient safety and the quality of care through digital means.

“Our EPR initiative has enabled us to engage with all our clinical staff to improve patient safety and provide care in a more timely and effective way.

“I am tremendously proud of all the teams involved and the contributions they have made,” said Kevin Fitzgerald, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Chief Information Officer.

The trust is working with Cerner on the EPR project.

A global first: King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh achieves DIAM Stage 6

King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has achieved Stage 6 of the Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM), used to identify and evaluate levels of digitisation in imaging IT and its role in improving patient care.

The organisation is the first in the world to be recognised at this level of the model, which, similar to the EMRAM, has eight stages. It was developed by HIMSS Analytics and the European Society of Radiology.

“KAMC is well ahead of the curve,” said Professor Peter Mildenberger, from the European Society of Radiology.
