Ricoh is among the tech giants charging into healthcare as the industry moves away from paper and health information exchange becomes more common.
Ricoh is also transitioning away from its past as a printer and copier vendor, according to Ron Nielson, vice president of Ricoh Healthcare.
Last year at HIMSS16, for instance, the company announced Ricoh Electronic Data Exchange for capturing, storing and managing protected information. The technology enables healthcare facilities to transfer data, photography and other images, into an electronic health record of enterprise content management system.
And this year at HIMSS17 the vendor will be using Ricoh EDE as the basis of what Nielson called “a day in the life of patient data” demonstration that also includes Ricoh partners Intersystems, LRS and Docuware.
“We believe information should be at the heart of patients and staff,” Nielson said. “So we’re focusing on how information moves as a patient presents, through treatment and all the way to discharge and post-encounter follow-up.”
The Ricoh EDE workflow technology will be demonstrated on the company’s Interactive Whiteboard to display how the software enables care collaboration and interoperability. And the company will be showcasing its Asset Management for Healthcare solution.
The idea behind these technologies is to help Ricoh customers tackle common pain points hospitals have in data flow, including getting patient data from referrals and scanned documents into the EHR, moving information around, securing it, and ultimately delivering the right data to the right person at the right time, he added.
“We’ve been handling output for years and years so we know where the pain points are,” Nielson said. “Our goal is try to help reduce that by going to those pain points and addressing them.”
Ricoh is in booth 3822.
