The state has already achieved a marked increase in people using its patient portal and HIE. One big surprise: Its most active patients turned out to be the ones widely considered least interested in technology. 

Hospital Compare enables patients to determine the best hospital for types of treatment in a specific area. Physicians and providers can also use the tool to better understand what improvements are needed for higher quality care. 

The HIE will use the tool to more systematically share data across its various provider organizations. 

The investment firm will work with early stage startups and growth companies to help fuel innovation and scale technologies.  

Veterans will initially be able to schedule primary care appointments by using a new app. And in the future VA officials plan to add optometry, audiology and mental-health. 

The project will combine an insulin pump, continuous glucose monitoring and personalized medicine technologies, the companies said. 

Healthcare respondents also said they intend to increase budgets for app development by 15 percent. 

Florida Hospital Waterman and Florida Hospital Carrollwood are being recognized for their use of technology to improve patient outcomes and analytics to reduce infections.
